Boundaries, Beaches, and Big Dreams
Jun 22, 2025
This week, I’m trading in my calendar, Zoom links, and never-ending to-do list for sunscreen, ocean waves, and margaritas.
My husband and I are headed to Cancun to meet up with his brother and sister-in-law, and I have to admit—there’s a part of me that almost felt guilty stepping away right now.
Why?
Because I’m also on the edge of something big: I’m getting ready to launch my new podcast, Nurses Unleashed—a project that’s been living in my heart for a long time. It’s exciting. It’s vulnerable. And it would be so easy to let that excitement blur into “I should just work a little more before I go.”
But I’m not doing that this time.
Instead, I’m giving myself full permission to unplug. To be present. To rest and reconnect with myself, my husband, and the version of me who doesn’t always need to be producing something to feel worthy.
Because the truth is: the big dreams I’m chasing? They need space to breathe. And so do I.
And maybe you do too.
As nurses, as women, as caregivers and over-functioners and let-me-just-squeeze-this-in-ers—we’re so used to stretching ourselves thin that rest can feel… almost rebellious.
But here’s what I’ve learned: boundaries aren’t barriers. They’re bridges. They create the structure that supports our freedom.
So this week, I’m honoring my own boundaries:
• No checking emails by the pool.
• No opening my laptop “just to tweak something.”
• No guilt for choosing joy, connection, and stillness.
If you’ve been needing permission to pause, consider this your sign. The work will wait. Your peace shouldn’t have to.
And if you’re wondering where your own boundaries could use some support, I’ve got something for you…
